At Solscape Design, we invite the client into the design process, which becomes a transformative and healing journey. I do this by helping each individual connect with how they want to feel when they’re in their space. This process takes on a nature-centered approach that helps you reconnect with nature as a whole and your true nature. We also want to leverage this design to allow Nature's power to calm the nervous system and promote emotional well-being. This can be done in many ways through natures beautiful elements…the calming tranquility of water, the glow and warmth of fire, the movement of plants and sounds with air and the grounding energy earth with the plants and soil. This taps into something primal, something that resonates deeply within each of us. Working with the elements is just one way to harness the healing properties of nature.

Many of us crave the peace and quiet that comes with open, outdoor spaces — and for good reason. Nature allows us to step away from the demands of daily life, comforts us, and calms our nervous system. Being outside renews our spirits, encouraging us to look beyond our immediate circumstances. It also allows us to process difficult feelings in a judgment-free zone, playing a particularly important role in emotional regulation. Your area can be large or small…please remember that your new sanctuary doesn’t need to be large to be healing.

This unique design process goes deeper than traditional garden aesthetics and design. You’ll receive ‘Nurturing the Garden Within: Your Personalized Nature Design Journey’ that asks the deeper questions to begin the process. Here are a few sample questions:

  • When you think of nature, what specific elements (water, trees, flowers, animals) resonate with you most? Why?

  • How do you currently feel when you're in natural spaces? What emotions or sensations arise for you?

  • When you imagine your perfect outdoor space, how do you want it to feel? Peaceful, energizing, inspiring, grounding, or something else?

The next step is immersion…I’ve learned through working with many clients over the years that starting this landscape design journey can create a lot of fear. I like to meet my clients at a local nursery to discuss the needs of plants and go deeper into their vision. I’ve often heard how overwhelming stepping into a nursery can be. My aim here is to start the process of re-connecting you and the natural world. It’s amazing to see my clients return to that child-like wonder when in the magical place like a nursery.

“In every child, there is a seed of wisdom, a pure and untainted version of themselves that the world sometimes buries. To return to childhood is to return to who we really are, before the layers of fear and doubt piled up.”

We all had a childhood and during that time we were very connected to the outer mystery of plants, animals and the natural world. We each have a story of what came alive for us when we were kids out in nature. What was your childhood memory of nature and how did that make you come alive? In this part of the process we begin the journey back to the soul, back to who you were always meant to be.

The final step will be reviewing the plan we designed together. I will give you recommendations unique to your location and if needed can arrange a consultation with an installer I’ve worked with for years.
